Perry Marshall – New Renaissance Club Vol 22 – Issue 2
Some questions about your anxiety, distraction and exhaustion…
- With the bajillion distractions and options available to you in our incessantly chattering world…are you finding it harder to discern PRECISELY what you should focus on to take your business to the next level?
- Is the never-ending, knuckle-slicing HUNT for new customers (who seem to be growing smaller and scrawnier every hunt)…leaving you exhausted and famished?
- Does every day seem to evaporate in a flurry of “fire prevention” and busy work …leaving you no time to invest in the BIG PICTURE strategizing you KNOW you need to truly transform your business?
- Are your customers becoming fickler, more demanding, less loyal…or just plain disappearing? Do you wonder how to keep them around without surrendering ALL your profits?
- Is your market or industry growing slowly, or not at all? Does gazing 5 years into your crystal ball make you anxious for your business’s survival?
- Do you worry that your competitors…or some completely out-of-the-blue new player that you did not see coming… may suddenly UBER-ize your industry, rendering you completely irrelevant almost overnight?
- Are you spending all your time grinding away in your business (the one you HOPED would give you more freedom)…and missing out on all the sweetness life can offer?
If you answered yes to any of those 7 questions, I can show you a path forward. A path out of the distraction, anxiety, overwhelm and exhaustion.
A path toward greater peace, discernment, clarity, focus, rest, prosperity and freedom.
I know that’s a grand promise.
But I’ve seen it happen in Planet Perry time and time again…
George’s Grand Escape from the Hamster Wheel
It’s Tuesday morning in March. Perry Marshall “City Tour” in Houston Texas. 8:45am.
Guy walks into the room. “Hi, my name is George. I met you seven years ago at your AdWords seminar in Maui….I went home from that seminar and spiked my business to $5 million a year.”
“Wow that’s awesome!” I say.
“But lately I’ve had some tremors … and I just KNEW I needed to be here in Houston today,” he says.
“Tell me more.”
He explains: “Honestly, I haven’t been paying much attention to my business for the last few years. Mostly I’ve been playing jazz guitar. I’ve been touring Europe. Made an album.”
His business partner tells me, “Yeah, George gets up in the morning, works for a couple hours, then heads to the studio. Spends the rest of the day doing whatever he pleases.”
I ask for business details. They’re the #1 player in a high-volume, high-value niche (STAR BUSINESS).
They’ve been making a ton of dinero AND George works maybe 2 hours a day.
Has been running his business for 10 years, and has mostly been playing guitar for the last three years!
At the Houston event, we patched him up and sent him down the road so he could play guitar in more clubs in Germany and Sweden.
Cuz that’s what he LIKES to do.
DO NOT MISS THIS — THIS IS THE *SWEET* SIDE OF 80/20
The sweet life is when you’re on the INSIDE of frictionless network effects. When you’re in a STAR business. When you’re doing $10,000/hour work every day. When you’re making big, high-margin money from every customers. When customers chase you down and refuse to look at your competition. When breakthrough ideas come naturally and easily to you.
When you’re in this zone, you really can work a few hours a day and spend the rest of your time playing guitar.
Or whatever it is YOU want to do.
This happens in Planet Perry.
It happens because, in our culture, we’ve identified a set of PRINCIPLES and TOOLS…razor sharp rapiers that slice at the heart of the problems faced by entrepreneurs of the 21st Century.
And every single month, these principles and tools are laid out for you like weapons before a duelist.
Through my monthly newsletter…through live call-in days…through lively discussions on the New Renaissance Forum…through our monthly members-only Webinars…through coaching programs like 80/20 Productivity Express…and through my vast archive encompassing over 16 years of past New Renaissance resources!
So that you can go from overwhelmed to overjoyed.
What are these tools and principles?
I call them…
The 7 Steps to Your Business Renaissance
Step One. Use Renaissance Time to Gain Discernment and Clarity
At its heart Renaissance Time is listening. Listening to whatever you call “God.” In Planet Perry we call it “The Head Office.” You must start every day this way. When you commit to Renaissance Time you’ll find you actually have more time to important profit-building ideas.
When I first started preaching this secret, I didn’t think anyone would listen. Every day the world seems to device another devious method to distract us…another social media app to suck up our attention…another piece of marketing software to pull at our brains…another silly addictive diversion to enslave us.
But it’s since become THE cornerstone of Planet Perry culture. I’ve gotten more rave reviews for my 30-Day Reboot challenge (which puts HEAVY emphasis on Renaissance Time), than almost any program I’ve ever developed!
Many savvy entrepreneurs, with 7- and even 8-figure businesses, swear by Renaissance Time. They wouldn’t think of starting their day any other way.
And you shouldn’t either. Trying to transform your business without transforming you DAY, is almost impossible.
If you want to go from overwhelm to overjoyed, this is Step One.
And in New Renaissance Club you’ll learn how to transform regular time into Renaissance Time.
Step Two. Make Your Top Customers Three Times More Profitable with “Espresso Machine”
You can increase your revenue by 80% or MORE by discovering that 20% of your customers will spend four times the money to get something far better. The easiest way to figure this out is to ask, “How can I sell results not procedures?”
Most business owners they think that the only way to grow their business is to get new customers.
But that’s actually the most expensive thing you can do.
In New Renaissance Club, we show you how to make your customers more valuable.
Figuring out to how to sell your products cheaper is almost always a death sentence unless you are Amazon. You are not Amazon.
Smart business owners focus on how to offer additional products to some of their customers. They figure out creative and valuable ways to enable those customers to them pay more.
This can double or triple your revenue without increasing the amount of work that you’re doing…without having to spend more to get new customers.
And that’s what my New Renaissance movement is all about. 80/20. Getting more by doing less!
If you’re tired of incessantly chasing after new customers…and bleeding yourself dry by always cutting your prices…join the smart entrepreneurs in New Renaissance Club and see how to get more by doing less.
Step Three. Earn $1000/hour at Least One Hour a Day with 80/20 Time.
Most entrepreneurs do not set boundaries around their day. They let people interrupt them. They fail to delegate. In Planet Perry, our mission is to spend as much time as we can on $100 per hour and $1000 per hour or $10,000 per hour work. Then delegate, eliminate or automate the rest.
I wrote the book 80/20 Sales & Marketing. And a lot of people talk about implementing the 8020 principle into their business. It’s a well-known principle that 80% of results come from 20% of your efforts.
But very few people really understand how to identify the tasks, products, customers, and ideas that truly generate those results.
In New Renaissance Club, we’re obsessive about 80/20. We’re obsessive about helping you figure out how to spend more of your time on the small fraction of activities that will generate YOUR biggest results.
And we call that $10,000 per hour work.
And part of doing $10,000 per hour work is deleting all the $10/hour and $100/hour work from your calendar.
Step Four. Create an Irresistible Product that is a Joy to Use by Simplifying.
There are two ways to simplify and they are radically different.
Make your product cheaper…price simplifying
Make your product a joy to use …proposition simplifying
This concept comes from the magnificent book Simplify by Richard Koch.
Warning: No one in Planet Perry is a Price simplifier. You are not a price simplifier. As I mentioned earlier, slashing your prices is a slow march unto extinction, unless you have the massive resources of someone like Jeff Bezos. Trying to lower your price to compete with your competition or satisfy fickle customers will lead you to MORE overwhelm, anxiety, frustration, exhaustion and enslavement.
We must all strive to be proposition simplifiers. Proposition simplifying means making your product or service faster, easier, more delightful to use. But not just a LITTLE faster, easier and more delightful. RADICALLY faster, easier, and more delightful.
In New Renaissance we’re all about helping you identify the smartest product strategy for your business through the Simplify principle. We’ll show you how entrepreneurs have pulled the barnacles away from their product.
Many entrepreneurs think that making a product or service better means loading it up with more features, buzzers and whistles, and add ons. Wrong. Often this leads to bloat and excess that actually makes the product or experience LESS satisfying to the customers…and MORE headaches and hassle and overwhelm for YOU.
We help you simplify your offering so that you attract better, higher-paying, more profitable customers…who are a JOY for you to sell to and serve!
Step Five. Carve out the Niche where You are the Undisputed Number One Via the Star Principle.
Almost all the money and growth comes from companies that are Number One in a market that is growing 10% of more each year. If you’re not number one in a fast-growing market, you must carve off a slice of the market where you CAN be number one.
Many business owners take me-too marketing approach. They figure if they offer a product similar to their competition…and just shout louder (employ better marketing)…they can win.
Those days are over.
Marketing is no longer a powerful competitive advantage in most industries. Marketing is now a commodity. Better marketing won’t help you win in the 21st Century. It will merely allow you tread water for a little longer.
You’ll always just be just another voice in the noise.
Star Principle is about identifying a niche where you can be the ONLY voice.
It’s not about competing, it’s about dominating.
It’s not about crafting better marketing messages, it’s about crafting a better offering for a better segment of the market…so that the marketing message virtually writes itself.
In New Renaissance we show you how to go from exhausted gladiator in the bloody arena…to victorious emperor on your throne of gold.
Step Six. Build an Impenetrable Moat Around Your Business
Scaling a business is impossible if your product or service is easy to replicate. Someone is always willing to do what you do, only cheaper. The first step to building a business that’s IMMUNE to competitors is to become consciously aware of the protections you put into place to take advantage of NETWORK EFFECTS.
Uber used network effect to transform the taxi industry. Taxi companies are on a slow march toward death. Amazon used network effect to wipe out thousands of brick and mortar stores.
You don’t have the resources of an Uber or an Amazon. But even relatively small businesses can leverage this power through what we in New Renaissance Club call Network Effect for Mere Mortals.
If you can execute this strategy you can revolutionize your industry…or your slice of your market…and render your competition virtually irrelevant.
I believe this may be THE business strategy of the 21st Century, and you’ll see examples and read case studies and listen to webinars about this uber-important topic every month in New Renaissance Club.
Step Seven. Enjoy Freedom to Create and Reinvent Every Single Day
The biggest breakthroughs come by giving yourself time to think and staying connected to like-minded entrepreneurs. Do things that inspire you to feed your creative engine.
A couple of years ago I needed to bang out a sales letter for a program we were about to launch. I was under deadline. I had to get it done over the weekend so we could launch on Tuesday. It was Saturday night and I was running out of time. But as I hovered over my laptop and tried to crank out the work…the ideas just would not come.
I pulled my hair and banged my head (figuratively) but all I got was bland, cliché, boring, pedestrian copy.
Then I got a text from my friend John, “Hey we’re downtown at Gospel Fest if you wanna join us.”
One side of my brain said, “You don’t have time to play, you need to work!” But the better side of my brain said, “You don’t have any good ideas and you won’t get any good ideas by working harder…stop working, feed your creative engine and then come back to this.”
So, I did. I went and enjoyed the joyful music, the fresh breeze of the lakeside park, and the company of good friends…even a little wine.
And when I got back to the work, the ideas FLOWED…kinda like wine!
You’ve probably experienced this in your own life. Working hard, thinking hard can only get you so far. Eventually your brain (or body) just says “I’m done…I’m not giving you any more juice.” And then you gotta go fill the tank with something fun and engaging…and NOT related to work.
In New Renaissance we believe in a virtuous circle of Renaissance PLAY.
You take time off of work to engage in activities which feed your inspiration….and then the ideas come more quickly and easier…which gives you more time to spend on activities which feed your inspiration.
Like time with your kids who are quickly becoming not kids anymore…your significant romantic other…your fascinating friends.
We are anti-hamster-wheel. We are anti-rat-in-the-maze. We are anti-Dilbert-Cube.
We are pro fun. Pro inspiration. Pro art and music and creativity and spirituality and family and travel and romance!
Without those, life is not life…life is just business.
New Renaissance motto: Business should feed your life, not the other way around.
Each month in New Renaissance Club you’ll get…
